There's always a lot going on in Tampa, but sometimes the price of admission is too steep. So, I'm setting out on a mission to find fun FREE stuff to do in Tampa Bay. I like trying new things, so virtually anything is fair game, as long as it's free. Since the economy tanked, people are trying to trim their budgets and the first thing to go is usually entertainment. Hopefully I can provide some suggestions, and give some feedback about the free events I've attended.
Just this weekend I went to see "The Art of Motion," a parkour/free running competition in Ybor City where contestants did flips and tricks off a staircase and artificial barriers and walls. One guy walked straight up the side of a wall. One guy wore a tail. (We were sitting to the right of the staircase and almost made this video.) I also went to see Greg Behrendt, author of "She's Just Not That Into You," which started out as a "Sex and the City" episode and ended up as a feature film.
Now, neither one was technically scott free (where did that come from?) because I ended up buying drinks at both events. But you can't beat the price of admission, and I could have attended both without any refreshments. I figured if I was going for free, I could shell out a few bucks for some beers. The parkour event was free to everyone, but I got the tickets to see Greg at Tampa Improv by following their Twitter account. They gave free tickets to the first 10 people to e-mail, so I was in. I'll try to keep you posted on deals like these, so you can explore Free Tampa, too.
